Here is a list of some of my favorite people, places and things… in no particular order. Be sure to come back and visit — I will be continually updating this page as I encounter new people, places and things that improve my life (and that could improve yours, too!).
Kris Carr is bad ass. She was a “party hound and stress slut” (her words not mine) until her lifestyle caught up with her. She developed cancer, and fortunately beat it with the assistance of changes in her diet and lifestyle. She eventually married the editor of her documentary film, “Crazy Sexy Cancer” which chronicles her process. Her book, “Crazy Sexy Diet” opened my eyes to the healing powers of diet and lifestyle changes that I never knew existed.
Marianne Williamson is a modern day role model for women of all ages. She is extremely compassionate and spiritual, yet tough as nails. She don’t take no shit, and isn’t afraid to speak her mind, nor stand up for what she believes. Her book, “A Return to Love,” changed my life as it exposed me to a whole new way of looking at life… with love.
I am so fortunate to call Janet Thomas a friend. Her story is unbelievable: Sexual Abuse. Obesity. Clinical Depression. She not only survived these things, she used these experiences as stepping stones to become one of the strongest, kindhearted, and loving people I know. She introduced me to many tools that assisted me in becoming a better version of myself. I still utilize them on a daily basis.
The Raw Juicery
Although I am not a big believer in juice cleanses, I do love a good juice as a mid-morning or mid-afternoon pick-me-up instead of a naughty snack from the vending machine. They deliver to certain areas of California and are available at some So Cal farmers markets. Red Cure is my fave, especially after a night of adult beverages.
My Yoga Mat!
Here are the two online yoga sites I frequent when I can’t get to class:
I am so fortunate to live in West Los Angeles where there are amazing yoga studios seemingly on every corner. When I can’t make it to a class, or I am on the road, I fire up www.udaya.com. I can practice on my own time, in my own space, for the length and difficulty level right for me. Most of the instructors are my local favorites — you can’t go wrong with Rudy, Vytas or Travis.
My first few yoga classes were with Bryan Kest. I still attend his classes on a regular basis despite the fact I thought I was going to drown in my own sweat those first few visits. His teachings are useful on and off the mat. For example, I discovered it’s perfectly acceptable to be a yogi (whatever that means) and use the F-word in every sentence. His classes are intense yet life changing, both physically and mentally. Some of the instructors from Udaya can be found on poweryoga as well.
True Food Kitchen
“Great food that happens to be good for you” is their motto. True Food Kitchen’s seasonal menu is healthy, yummy and can satisfy every appetite; steak, chicken, fish, vegetarian or vegan. One of the founders, Dr. Andrew Weil, was one of my instructors at IIN and he is a great example of living a healthy life in moderation. You can find me at the Santa Monica location at least once a week toting my yoga mat. They also have locations throughout the US.
If there’s ever a place that could convert the meat and potatoes devotee into a vegan, it’s this place! It is 100% organic and plant-based. I frequent the Venice location at least once a week and the staff and the food is consistently awesome.
I buy and consume Yogi Teas by the truckload. I haven’t found a Yogi tea I didn’t love, but Chai Rooibos, Green Tea Energy and Roasted Dandelion are in my regular rotation.
Traditional Medicinals Teas
Traditional Medicinals teas are my liquid medicine cabinet. Colds, flus, digestive issues, etc. can be relieved with a cup of their tea. As an added bonus, their teabags have inspiring phrases such as, “Truth is Everlasting” or “Smile.”
After suffering for years with debilitating allergies and daily doses of prescription allergy meds, I ended the suffering with a holistic diet and my neti pot. If you told me a decade ago I would be touting the benefits of nasal rinsing, I would’ve asked you for a hit of whatever you were smoking. I haven’t taken an allergy pill in years thanks to my daily neti pot usage.
Essential oils have been around for thousands of years. I use them to relax, uplift and heal. I believe Young Living is one of the best essential oil companies out there.
